EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
The aim of this course is to provide you with the basic range of skills necessary to perform fundamental maintenance and repair in domestic, construction and allied industries.
This course is intended to help you prepare and progress to employment of more than 16 hrs per week in a wide variety of jobs that are constantly being advertised for the Local Employment Partnerships
On successful completion of this course you will have the necessary skills to gain employment within the field of property maintenance,general construction, caretaking or general handy person
THE COURSE
The course is modular and consists of 3 disciplines :
Painting & Decorating
- Accessing
- Strip, repair and crossline area to
receive a selected wallpaper
- Burn off a selected moulded panel
door and bring forward to receive
acrylic paint
- Prepare and bring forward to an oil
gloss finish selected wooden window
- Prepare selected area to receive
vinyl silk emulsion
- Design nameplate in block stencil
Plumbing
- Transferring levels
- Non-manipulative compression fittings
- Copper pipe bending and jointing
- Steel pipework and fittings
- Use of plastic materials for plumbing (A)
- Use of plastic materials for plumbing (B)
Electrical Installation
- Connection of flex to common apparatus
- One way switching circuit
- 13 amp switched socket wired in ring main
- Cut, bend and thread conduit
- Trunking
Continuous assessment of both practical and theoretical work will take place throughout training
COURSE LENGTH
The length of the course is flexible - up to a total of 46 weeks, which includes a period of work experience up to 10 weeks and 20 days holiday.

City & Guilds: Basic Construction Skills
