EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
To gain employment in the IT Technician field, you will need to learn the functions of hardware and software and be able to assemble and install operating systems and software applications. You will also need to troubleshoot hardware and software problems and gain an insight into networking infrastructures.
This course is intended to help you prepare and progress to employment of more than 16 hrs per week in a wide variety of jobs that are constantly being advertised for the Local Employment Partnerships
This course will give you the necessary skills to apply for jobs across the commercial and public sectors in organisations which have a need for the maintenance of computer systems, desktop support, remote assistance and basic networks. Your skills will also be particularly relevant to ICT Retail Businesses.
THE COURSE
The course is divided into chapters and includes the following subjects:
- Build, configure, upgrade and maintain a personal computer system
- Diagnose and resolve problems of a personal computer system
- Install and configure various computer peripheral devices
- Set-up, configure and maintain a local area network
- Detect and solve problems using Microsoft Windows System tools
- Understand the specialised functions of the network server and the circumstances required for a secure network server room
- Apply relevant workplace safety and environmental standards during computer maintenance
- Use a customer-oriented approach to solve user problems
- Solve network connection problems on a local area network using a logical troubleshooting approach
- Install, configure, upgrade and maintain Microsoft Windows Operating Systems
- Offer computer hardware and software support based upon a set of normal and orderly problem solving standards
COURSE LENGTH
The length of the course is flexible - and will in general, include a period of work placement and holidays. This course must be taken as an addition to one of the other technical courses run in the college.

- CISCO Systems Networking Academy Certificate of Course Completion - IT Essentials I: PC Hardware and Software
