On Thursday 11th June 2009 Finchale Training College was extremely fortunate to receive a Royal visit from Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex. Her Royal Highness spent over an hour at Finchale Training College as part of an official visit to the North East region.

During her tour of Finchale Training College Her Royal Highness visited various training areas including Accounting and Electrical Training where she spent a long time talking to staff and trainees about their experiences of unemployment and the training and support they were receiving at the College.
As part of this visit to Finchale Training College Her Royal Highness agreed to officially open the newly refurbished residential accommodation which has been renamed Wessex House in honour of Her Royal Highness' visit to the College.
The Countess of Wessex visited two trainees who had recently moved into the new ensuite accommodation before proceeding into the College games room to meet the College Directors and unveiling the commemorative plaque. During this ceremony Her Royal Highness expressed her sincere admiration for the College and the work it does in helping disabled adults find permanent employment.
Her Royal Highness then signed the College's visitors' book and was presented with a posy and handmade jewellery box by two trainees.
