CISCO Networking Academy Programme:
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
This course is designed by Cisco to enable you to acquire knowledge, skills and expertise of Cisco Networking, Switching and Installation. Cisco is a major international company supplying internetworking hardware to all sectors using ICT.
Content
The Cisco CCNA programme is a modular course, broken into four semesters. The course is based around the Cisco Certified Network Associate programme guidelines. The four semesters cover the following
areas of networking:
- S1: Networking Basics
- OSI Model vs TCP/IP Model
- Ethernet Fundamentals
- IP Addressing
- Basic LAN configuration
S3: Switching Basics and Intermediate Routing
- Classless Routing
- Switch & VLAN Configuration
- OSPF & EIGRP Routing

- S2: Routers and Basic Routing
- Router Configuration
- Router Troubleshooting
- LAN Segmentation
- Access Control Lists
S4: WAN Technologies
- NAT, PAT, DHCP Configuration
- Frame Relay, ISDN,PPP Configuration
- Network Administration

Assessment
All modules throughout the four semesters have end of module
assessments to confirm your understanding, these are administered
locally via the Internet. You can work at your own pace throughout the
course with support from your instructor in the form of one-to-one help,
mini lectures, lab activities and guided support through the curriculum.
Entry Requirements
There is no pre-requisite for joining the CCNA programme at Finchale College, however prior knowledge or interest in IT Systems and hardware would be an advantage. You will be invited to attend an assessment day at the College to complete numeracy and communication tests, as well as spend time in the Cisco training room and lab. This assessment day is not to exclude anyone, but enables us to provide additional support to you if necessary.
Length
The length of the course is flexible – up to a total of 44 weeks which includes a period of work placement and holidays.

Opportunities
Upon successful completion of this course you should be looking for the opportunity to work in medium to large organisations, to apply and enhance your networking skills and information technology knowledge. Previous trainees completing the programme at Finchale have gone on to gain employment with their Local Government network support departments, Local Health Authority ITC support departments, global hardware retailers, telephone support, local IT based businesses, consultancies and third party providers of support to business and government.
