Stephen Grey “closed off from the world” after a troubled childhood and then leaving the military.
The 26-year-old was encouraged by his partner to seek help for the mental health issues he faced.
After a road traffic accident, Stephen eventually came into contact with the police and health authorities. He started seeing a therapist and was referred to Finchale Group and his dedicated Case Manager Angela Kelly.
Within a year Angela had helped Stephen to secure HGV Class 1 and Class 2 qualifications – via the charity CivvyStreet – and work via an agency.
Stephen’s dyslexia means he struggles with job applications, so Angela has stepped in to build his CV and help with contacting employers. Together they have found suitable work and Stephen is now employed as an HGV driver.
Angela is on the other end of the phone whenever Stephen needs her. She’s helped him find support for his mental health needs and offered advice on tenancy issues he has come up against.
Now with a renewed confidence, Stephen is looking at joining the army reservists and even has entrepreneurial ambitions to set up his own business.
