Bench Joinery Foundation and Intermediate
The aim of this course is to provide you with traditional & modern practical joinery skills as used in the construction and allied industries.
Content
The Programme offers you the opportunity to achieve NVQ or equivalent level qualifications by demonstrating competence at either Level I or II, in the following areas:
- Level - Foundation
- Load and unload resources
- Contribute to maintaining work relationships
- Contribute to erecting and dismantling working platforms
- Set up and use portable power tools
- Maintain and use woodworking hand tools
- Form basic woodworking joints

- Level - Intermediate
- Store resources ready for use
- Erect and dismantle working platforms
- Contribute to efficient working practices
- Set up and use portable power tools
- Produce joinery setting out details
- Mark out joinery from setting out details
- Manufacture joinery products

Length
The length of the course is flexible - up to a total of 42 weeks, which includes a period of work placement and holidays.
Qualifications
- City & Guilds Skills Test
- CITB Construction Award
- Wood Occupations Level I or II
Continuous assessment of both practical and theoretical work will take place, however the NVQ is only available if you have an appropriate work placement where full work-based assessment can be carried out.
Opportunities
On successful completion of this course you will have the necessary skills to apply for vacancies in many areas of industry, including joinery workshops, caravan and boat builders, kitchen manufacturing and fitting, the home improvement sector (including window and conservatory manufacture and fitting). There are also opportunities for self-employment.
