do we meet your needs?...
we need to ensure that provision at Finchale meets the needs and aspirations of all our trainees. Therefore we assess all applications to the College in terms of the following:

Are you committed to finding paid employment or self-employment of 16 hrs or more per week immediately on completion of your programme?

Are there sufficient jobs in your chosen employment sector in your travel-to-work home area?

Are there any barriers to your achievement of employment in your chosen sector that cannot be overcome with support and/or reasonable adjustments?
Are you able to complete your chosen training programme in the time available to you and undertake the work that you have chosen?

Is your medical condition/disability stable enough to enable you to complete the training in the time available and enter work directly from your programme?
Are there any Health and Safety issues that may prevent you entering your chosen area of employment?
Are there any of your needs that the College would not be able to meet within the resources available from government?
Are your literacy and numeracy skills of a sufficient level to enable you, with support, to complete the training in the time available and enter your chosen area of work directly from your programme?
The application process.
All applications to Finchale must come from your Disability Employment Advisor...tip

You can visit the College before you apply in order to see us in action, meet the staff and other trainees and find out more about what we do and how we do it. Visits take place on Wednesday afternoon. If you are interested please contact us on 0191 3862634.
Confused - ask your DEA about a pre-application evaluation
If you and your Disability Employment Advisor are unsure about whether Finchale would be appropriate for you, we can provide a pre-application evaluation in relation to the programmes we offer. Ask your Disability Employment Advisor to arrange this either by telephone or by using this Website ...tip
You will need to bring with you:

  • A CV (your educational and work history).
  • Examples of actual vacancies for the jobs you are interested in your travel-to-work area.
  • A Better Off Calculation of the effects of work on your benefits (arranged by your Disability Employment Advisor).

Once you and we have decided that your application is appropriate and we can meet your employment needs,
we will invite your DEA to complete a full application
